Well,I have to remind you that Pinyin without tones hardly makes sense mostly and Pinyin with
tones makes poor sense when you are out of luck.

As the rate of replies suggests, you couldn’t hit the jackpot easily for a short while after you
posted the thread.

Yes, it’s 臭味相投. I cannot get any other word about it.
For a Chinese, it’s easy to suppose the word, I bet the Hong Kong guy is Chinese.
If he’s not, forgive my hypotheses.

derogatory sense,but not too much.

One of the world War 1 display was this banner from Beijing circa 1910. The description (in
English) said nothing about what the words mean, so I took it down by hand. Please help translate:

I’m not particularly sure if 管 is correct but the bottom 官component is definitely there.

I’m not sure about 驍 too. It definitely has the 馬 radical there (it wasnt easy for me to read
the banner)

In the past Chinese was also written horizontally from right to left. If it is a banner then I
think actually the characters are (now read them from left to right)-

驍騎營

營 is a battalion. Take a look at the first definition ->

So 驍騎營 = cavalry battalion

Re the four characters put vertically in #1, I think they are 拾七槍隊 – the 17th rifle
squadron, although 拾 usually goes with 柒 instead of 七. Note that I’ve swapped the position
of the 2nd and 3rd characters. Also note the different left radical of 槍.

PS – but if the four characters are really arranged as in #1, then it could mean the 7th squadron
of rifle collection, which is strange.

PPS – oh but perhaps 拾 here means “carry”. If so then perhaps they mean the 7th rifle carrying
squadron (of the cavalry battalion).

order. But i guess the meaning is more or less there.

I think it should be 抬槍七隊.
抬槍 has been a major firearm in qing army since 19th century.

Hello,

we’ve been working on an edition of the 中庸 with commentary by 朱熹. Now we switched to the
same 經 but in an edition with the commentary by 鄭玄 which causes certain problems as there
are no punctuation marks and the language is completely beyond comparison.
I wonder if there are any digital versions of this edition out there.
Although a translation into any western language or modern chinese or punctuation marks would be
great, a simple digital version of the same text would already be very helpful.

Thanks for the quick reply.

That’s not the text I’m searching for.
I’ve got some additional information:
There’s a subcommentary 疏 by 孔穎逹 which is introduced with the character 疏. Within this
subcommentary theres reference by 孔穎逹 to one of his commentaries written earlier and
introduced often with 正義 or 正義曰 thus creating a sub-subcommentary.

Iv’e typewritten a passage from chapter 27:

右第二十六章。
1.
大哉聖人之道！洋洋乎！發育萬物，峻極于天。『育生也。峻高大也。洋音�
��。峻思潤反。』

優優大哉！禮儀三百，威儀三千。待其人而後行。故曰苟不至德，至道不凝�
��。

『言爲政在人政由禮也凝猶成也O 優於求反倡優也凝本又作疑魚澄反。[疏]
